Our founder, John Ahern, received his B.S. in Construction Engineering and Technology from the University of Southern Mississippi. He has had his State Certified General Contractors license (#CGC047464) since 1994.
Since I was a young boy, I would play with blocks or build with sticks to create homes for me to drive my toy cars into. I would spend hours just enjoying what I had built and I’m sure my mother deserved the break! I have always enjoyed working with my hands and helping my father around the house. My senior year of high school I received a swimming scholarship with a Division One University and I had no idea what I wanted to study. My father worked for Martin Marietta and he brought me to NASA to show me the guys working on the computers to see if I was interested in computer science. That did not bring me the inspiration my father was hoping. My father and I then went up to the University to meet the swimming coach and to see the different fields of study that were available. Once, I met the students and faculty for the School of Construction I was sold. I love the outdoors and this job would allow me to make a reasonable income, provide for my future family, and be able to enjoy the outdoors. I graduated college with a Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering and Technology. I started out working for a site contractor in Clearwater, Florida and knew that one day I would own my own business. So, after seven years of working for others I decided to go out on my own. Wow, it was a lot harder then I ever thought it would be. I did jobs that I would not do today, but I had to do it. I was married and had our first child on the way. Scary times, but I kept trying and after two years, I finally made more money than my last job working for someone else. I have always thought back to my wife’s support and my years of swimming that provided me the strength to keep trying. Well, it has been years since I started in May of 1994 and I am blessed to have made it through the down turns in the market and to have all of the happy customers that call me back for more work!
