Choosing Kitchen Cabinets
When doing an Orlando kitchen remodel, you’ll typically spend about half your budget on the cabinets. If you’re going to spend that much money on something, clearly you want to make the right choices. What are the right choices? With cabinets, it can be hard to even know where to start, much less which choices to make.
At Aspen Diversified, we can help you make these decisions. Whatever style you’re looking to incorporate into your new kitchen, we can ensure that your cabinets are a beautiful fit.
Let’s start with a few questions you should consider that will help you make the best decisions when it comes to your cabinets as well as anything else you have questions about with your orlando home remodeling projects.
What do you dislike about the cabinets you have now?
Are they too deep, making it hard to utilize all the space? Are they too small, leaving you with not enough storage space? Maybe the finish is too dark, and you want a brighter kitchen. Maybe you just have no organization features in them, so you’re unable to make good use of the space. Figuring out what you don’t like, what you don’t want, can be just as important in choosing new cabinets as figuring out what you do want.
What style are you going for?
Do you live in an older home, and want to keep a retro or vintage style? Are you doing a complete overhaul and want to create a contemporary, modern kitchen? Are you redoing other areas of the house, too? Determining style will help narrow your choices, making it a little less overwhelming.

Are you staying in the home or planning to sell in the near future?
If you’re planning to stay in the home, your needs need to be a top priority in determining which cabinets to install. But if you plan to sell within the next few months, or you’ve only bought the home to flip or rent it, you might not be as concerned with making it fit your specific needs. If you’re flipping or renting, you might prefer to make more standard, and often less expensive, choices.
What kind of storage space do you need?
Do you eat frozen meals using plastic cutlery most of the time? Or do you consider yourself a gourmet chef or baker, with lots of pots, pans, dishes and utensils to create your flavorful meals? If the kitchen is your happy place and you do a lot of cooking and baking, you’ll likely need more storage space than someone who is proud when they boil water. You’ll want to consider not only how much you need to store, but how you want to store it all. Do you want deeper lower cabinets so that shorter members of the household can reach the items there more easily, or do you want more storage space up high to keep little hands from getting into everything?
Are environmentally-friendly choices important to you?
The green movement is still growing, and many people choose to incorporate environmentally-friendly choices into their homes as they remodel. If you’d like bamboo cabinets or ones made from other renewable and sustainable materials, we can help you find them, as long as you let us know that’s what you want.
There are many other factors that can be considered when deciding on cabinetry. Colors, wood finishes, door styles, hardware and handles are all considerations. But the questions above help us determine how you’ll use your cabinets, to ensure that all the pretty details you choose later provide a pretty finish to useful and organized cabinets you’re proud to have.
